In 2007 Students from Magee made up of teams in Computing and Intelligent systems and Creative Arts, reached the national finals of Dare. In 2008 and 2009 they reached the Global finals. Can they form winning teams this year?
Dare to be Digital is a global games competition supported by Industry, Government and Research funding. The 2009 competition is over but 2010 will be launched next semester. In preparation for this the we decided that both Creative Arts and Computing and Intelligent systems will plan early. It is a team competition and requires cross disciplinary collaboration (including 2D, 3D and /or 4D designers, sound/ music experts and computer programmers). At the Magee Campus we are well placed to compete and win, but have not gained the podium just yet- will you be the first to do so? The brief is open but care should be taken to design games which are smart. First player “shot ‘em ups” and Formula one racing car games are old news- they have been done before. What benefits could a new approach bring, could it assist in social, emotion or even metal development through real fun entertainment? Could it be a serious game which helps organise you work flow and life plans or even within education. The brief is open-ended but the final proposals must have a purpose beyond just novel theme.
Teams are expected to engage with other students from other courses and a network will be set up to meet and build such synergies. See what dare is all about.
